Arthur Rank Hospice’s Cottenham Charity Shop could lend you a hand this Christmas

More guests than you expected for Christmas dinner?  Searching for unique stocking fillers or a bargain on a designer label for a special present? Or on the look-out for something no-one else will be wearing this season?

Pop into the Hospice’s charity shop, on the High Street in what was the old Post Office.  There are some great bargains to be had and lots of quality items on sale.

They’ve got well-priced glassware, crockery and cutlery (handy if you’ve got more people turning up for Christmas lunch!) as well as a lovely range of Christmas cards on sale, including five local scenes: Kings Parade, Trinity Street, Histon, Ely and Wisbech. Grab yourself a delicious Christmas puddings (small, medium and large) or browse the kid’s, men’s and womenswear. Be sure to look out for ‘Arthur’s Label of Love’ highlighting those designer and signature pieces which could make a stunning present to someone special this Christmas or wow everyone at the office party!

Pay the shop a visit and you’ll also be supporting Arthur Rank Hospice and helping to fund essential care for thousands of people living with a life-limiting illness in our county.

All Saints’ Cottenham: welcome to Revd Lynda Davies!

The evening of October 16 th saw the licensing service for Revd Lynda Davies, the new rector of All Saints’ Cottenham and All Saints’ Rampton.    It was a lovely and memorable occasion with a full church and some rousing hymns.  The organist said delightedly, “That was the best congregational singing I’ve ever played for: I got to pull out all the stops.”   The Rt Rev David Thomson, Bishop of Huntingdon, led the service with his characteristic blend of  grace and gentle good humour, and Iain Campbell from her former parish commended her to us warmly.   Members of the Cottenham and Rampton community welcomed Lynda, asked her to make sure the church tower doesn’t fall down like it did 400 years ago, and invited her to do crafts with the Brownies.  The service was followed by a fantastic spread of refreshments from the All Saints’ Cottenham team (pictured below).   We are all very much looking forward to Lynda’s ministry with us. ...

Cricket club news

We are now very much turning our thoughts towards the 2018 season. Last summer was a rather disappointing one for us on the pitch and we are keenly looking to strengthen our young and up-coming squad in order to make a really determined push for promotion next summer. The facilities for cricket at the rec. are now the best they’ve ever been with a superb pavilion, an enlarged ‘square’ – recently doubled in size (thanks to the Parish Council for helping us to replace our now defunct old square) - which played excellently last season, mobile covers (thanks to an ECB grant and the generosity of Mr Miah at the Curry Palace) and, for next year, renovated sight screens (thanks to FECA for their financial support with these). Next season, we will be running our usual two adult sides in the CCA Leagues as well as junior teams, for which both boys and girls can play, at u11s, u12s and u14s levels. We are also planning to continue the new ECB All Stars cricket programme for 5-8 year olds which ...
